Hope, Positivity and Determination on the Road to Recovery.
In 2017, I suffered a TBI from a wakeboarding accident. I nearly died, and I couldn’t really move, talk, eat or drink. I wasn’t given much hope by the doctors, but I received strong support from my family and friends. I relied on therapists to get better. I had a great physio, speech therapist, and O.T. We formed mutually respectful relationships where they listened to me as much as I listened to them. This motivated me and drove me to improve further. Support workers were fundamental in helping me to maximise my community access and incorporate what I’d done in therapy into the real world.
Now I’m volunteer working, looking at getting into paid employment. I’ve also just moved out of my community home, into an apartment by myself and I’m thoroughly enjoying the sense of independence and autonomy that comes with that. In summary, I have discovered that with a little bit of hope, determination and positivity, and with the help of a great support network, you can do anything you set your mind to.
